Pattern Instructions
Let’s dive into making your gorgeous t-shirt yarn bag! To see this pattern in action, be sure to watch my video tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMGoqcCr6fs).
Bottom of the Bag
- Chain: Start with a chain of 14 stitches (ch).
- Row 1: Skip the first loop, single crochet (sc) into each of the following 12 stitches. Then, work 3 sc into the last stitch (this creates an increase). Turn your work.
- Row 2: Work 12 sc across, then make 3 sc into the last stitch. Turn.
- Rows 3-9: Repeat the process, increasing at both ends of each row until you reach a total of 60 stitches.
- Row 10-18: Now work 9 rows without any increases.
Sides of the Bag
- Color Change: Switch to your second color of t-shirt yarn.
- Rows 1-9: Crochet 60 sc around for 9 rows.
Handles
- Handle Straps (make 2):
- Chain 53.
- Starting in the second chain from the hook, slip stitch (sl st) across the entire chain for a total of 52 sl st. Repeat for the second handle.
- Attaching Handles: Evenly space the handles across the top of the bag, pinning them in place to check spacing. Crochet the handles onto the bag by working through both the bag and the handle straps. Be sure to reinforce the attachment for durability.
Finishing Touches
- Cut and weave in: Cut the yarn, leaving a tail. Weave in all loose ends to secure your work.
- Optional Tassel: Make a simple tassel or pom-pom to add a playful touch to your bag!
